Chapter 3
Chapter 3
“He said that?” Courtney snapped her head around at me, eyes wide, jaw clenched.
“No, but I can tell. Things just aren’t the same anymore.”
My sister continued to glare at me in silent anticipation.
“It’s got to do with sex, all right,” I blurted out. “We’re not having any.”
“David doesn’t want to have sex? He’s cheating on you. I knew it!”
“No, no. The thing is I really resent him for putting all the blame on me for what happened.”
“Have you talked to him about it?”
“I’ve tried. I really have. He doesn’t want to hear it. He just wants to try again. But I don’t want to. I don’t even want to be near him. I keep making excuses. I dread tonight. He’s not on. He wants to stay home, watch a movie together, drink some wine, and then try to fuck me. The thought of it makes me sick.”
“You mean you don’t want to have sex with
him?”
I could only nod in agreement. “Never?”
“You think there’s something wrong with me? I’ve been with him for so long, we’ve talked about getting married, we almost had a baby together, but now I just find him repulsive. Maybe I’m afraid of commitment. I don’t know. Is it cold feet, or am I being a bitch? What do you think?”
“Well, Shanna, since you asked me, I don’t mind telling you. You’re my sister, and I won’t lie to you. There’s a lot not to like about David. He’s one-dimensional, and I’m sure he takes full advantage of it, I hate to say. That’s a cheater’s
M.O. David is a really good-looking guy, but he’s not all that and a bag a chips, like he thinks he is.”
“God, I hate that expression,” I said. “And just because he’s good-looking doesn’t mean he’s cheating on me.”
“I’m not saying David is a cheater. He might be, he might not be, I don’t know for sure. All I’m saying is he knows he’s good-looking. But that’s all he’s got, and to be honest with you, I never really liked him. Nobody does. But you already know that. I just don’t understand why you’re with him. You deserve so much better than him.”
“I know that people don’t like him and he can be an asshole sometimes, but what do you want me to do?”
“Leave him, that’s what.”
