The Fall Festival Showdown
The Fall Festival Showdown
The night of the festival was alive with energy. Booths lined the courtyard, string lights twinkled in the trees, and the air was filled with the scent of popcorn, hot chocolate, and cinnamon. Students laughed and chatted as they wandered between the stalls, but Hanna barely noticed the festive atmosphere.
Her heart pounded as she scanned the crowd, searching for Ciara. Finn stood beside her, his hand resting lightly on her back, while Emily trailed just behind them, her phone tucked into her pocket, ready to record if things escalated.
“This is it,” Finn said softly. “You’ve got this.”
Hanna nodded, taking a deep breath. “Let’s find her.”
They didn’t have to look far. Ciara was standing near the central fountain, surrounded by a small group of her usual followers. When she saw Hanna approaching, her lips curved into a cold smile.
“Well, if it isn’t the girl who can’t stay out of my business,” Ciara said, her voice loud enough to draw the attention of nearby students.
Hanna squared her shoulders, her voice steady. “We need to talk, Ciara.”
“Oh, do we?” Ciara replied, her tone mocking. “About what? Your pathetic attempts to turn people against me?”
“No,” Hanna said firmly. “About the truth.”
The crowd around them grew quiet, students pausing to watch the confrontation. Hanna could feel their eyes on her, but she kept her focus on Ciara.
“We both know what happened at that party,” Hanna continued. “Jacob didn’t start that fight. Mark did. And you’ve been trying to twist it ever since.”
Ciara’s smile faltered for a fraction of a second before she recovered. “You’re delusional,” she sneered. “No one’s going to believe your little sob story.”
“They don’t have to take my word for it,” Hanna said, her voice rising. “Talia was there. So was Marcus. They know what happened, and they’re not afraid to tell the truth.”
As if on cue, Talia and Marcus stepped forward from the crowd, their expressions calm but resolute.
“She’s right,” Talia said, her voice carrying across the courtyard. “Jacob didn’t start the fight. Mark did. And you’ve been covering for him ever since.”
The murmurs in the crowd grew louder, and Ciara’s face twisted with barely concealed fury.
“This isn’t over,” Ciara hissed, her voice low and venomous.
“Yes, it is,” Hanna said, her voice steady and strong. “You’ve spent years manipulating people and tearing them down. But not anymore.”
The crowd erupted into whispers and stares, and for the first time, Ciara seemed to falter under the weight of the scrutiny. As she turned and stalked away, the group around the fountain began to disperse, leaving Hanna standing tall amidst the aftermath.
Finn slipped his hand into hers, his voice soft but filled with pride. “You did it.”
Hanna exhaled, the tension in her chest finally easing. “We did it,” she said, glancing at Finn, Emily, and Jacob. For the first time in a long time, she felt like she could finally breathe.
