Never Just Friends

A Devastating Discovery

A Devastating Discovery

Hanna and Elordi sat across from each other in the quiet library, the glow of the laptop screen casting faint shadows over their faces. The air between them was tense, charged with the weight of what they were about to uncover.

Elordi scrolled through a series of emails, his smirk deepening as he leaned closer to the screen. “Well, well, well,” he murmured. “Our dear Ciara has been a busy little bee.”

Hanna frowned, her eyes narrowing. “What did you find?”

Elordi turned the laptop toward her, pointing to the highlighted email thread. It was a string of messages between Ciara and one of their teachers, Mr. Callahan. In the emails, Ciara hinted at sensitive personal information she had on him and pressured him into adjusting her grades in exchange for keeping his secrets hidden.

Hanna’s stomach twisted as she read the messages. “She blackmailed a teacher? That’s… next level, even for her.”

“This is huge,” Elordi said, leaning back with a self-satisfied grin. “If this gets out, she’s done for. Forget school drama—this is a scandal that could get her expelled.”

But Hanna’s hands trembled as she closed the laptop. “What if it backfires? What if Mr. Callahan denies everything or tries to blame us for hacking into his account? This could blow up in our faces.”

Elordi shrugged, his smirk unwavering. “Then we deal with it. That’s how this game works, sweetheart. High risk, high reward.”

Hanna shot him a glare. “This isn’t a game, Elordi. People’s lives are at stake—including mine.”

Elordi’s expression softened, just for a moment. “I get it, Hanna. But if you want to win, you can’t keep worrying about what might happen. You’ve got to focus on what will happen if you let her keep getting away with this.”

The rest of the day passed in a blur for Hanna. The emails weighed heavily on her mind, and she couldn’t shake the image of Mr. Callahan’s name appearing alongside Ciara’s manipulative words. She thought about the other students who might have suffered because Ciara had rigged the system in her favor.

By the time Hanna met with Emily and Talia that evening, she was still grappling with what to do.

“We have enough to expose her without this,” Hanna said, pacing back and forth in her room. “Do we really need to drag Mr. Callahan into it?”

Emily frowned. “If he’s complicit, then yes. He’s part of the problem.”

“But what if he was just trying to protect himself?” Hanna countered. “What if Ciara forced him into a corner?”

Talia, who had been quiet until now, spoke up. “I get it, Hanna. I really do. But if we let her get away with this, she’ll think she can do anything. No one will be safe from her.”

Hanna sighed, running a hand through her hair. She felt like she was caught in an endless web of gray areas, where every choice came with consequences she wasn’t ready to face.

That night, as Hanna lay in bed staring at her ceiling, her phone buzzed with a message from Elordi.

Elordi: Don’t overthink it. You have the upper hand now. Use it.

Hanna stared at the screen for a long moment before replying.

Hanna: I’ll let you know.

Setting the phone aside, she closed her eyes, but sleep didn’t come easily. The discovery of Ciara’s manipulation had shifted the game once again, and Hanna wasn’t sure if she was ready for what came next.

Ciara had crossed every line imaginable, and now Hanna had to decide if she was willing to cross a few of her own to finally put an end to it.
