Finn’s Cold Distance
Finn’s Cold Distance
The days following the confrontation with Finn felt like a blur of emptiness. As Hanna walked through the school hallways, she tried to focus on the task at hand, but the weight of Finn’s cold indifference hung over her like a dark cloud. Every time she saw him, her heart ached a little more.
That morning, as she walked to class, she caught sight of Finn in the hallway. He walked past her without even a glance, his jaw tight, his eyes fixed straight ahead. The sharp contrast between the warmth they once shared and the cold distance between them now was unbearable. She could still remember the hurt in his eyes the last time they spoke, the moment he turned and walked away, leaving her with nothing but regret.
It was as though the space between them had only grown wider in the days since.
During lunch, Hanna tried to focus on the conversation with Emily, but her mind kept drifting back to Finn. Emily must’ve sensed her thoughts, because she reached across the table, giving Hanna’s arm a comforting squeeze.
“He just needs time,” Emily said, her voice soft but steady. “You know he loves you.”
“I don’t know anymore,” Hanna admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. “What if I’ve pushed him too far?”
Emily’s brow furrowed with concern, but she didn’t pull away. Instead, she looked Hanna in the eye, her grip firm. “If he can’t understand why you’re doing what you’re doing, then that’s on him. You’re fighting for all of us, Hanna. You’ve been trying to protect us, to stop Ciara from tearing us all apart.”
Hanna nodded, but the ache in her chest remained. Emily’s words felt like a lifeline, but they didn’t seem to reach the part of her heart that had been shattered by Finn’s absence. She could rationalize the situation all she wanted, but the fact remained: she missed him. She missed the warmth in his eyes, the ease with which they communicated, and the unspoken trust they shared. Now, it all felt like a distant memory.
It wasn’t just the tension with Finn that was weighing her down—Ciara’s latest threats loomed over her like a dark cloud, reminding her that she was still in the middle of a battle that had no clear end in sight. But as much as she wanted to focus on the fight ahead, the hole in her heart from Finn’s absence made everything feel heavier.
“I don’t know if I can keep doing this,” Hanna whispered, staring down at her half-eaten lunch. “It’s like everything is falling apart.”
Emily’s voice softened, filled with concern. “You’re not alone, Hanna. You have me, you have all of us. And you have Finn, even if it doesn’t feel like it right now. But you can’t let Ciara win, and you can’t let yourself lose sight of what matters.”
Hanna’s eyes flickered with a mix of doubt and hope. “I just don’t know if I can fix this,” she said quietly. “I don’t know how to get him back.”
Emily reached over, giving her a reassuring squeeze. “One step at a time, okay? Right now, just focus on what you need to do to end this with Ciara. You’ll figure everything else out.”
Hanna tried to smile, but the ache in her chest didn’t subside. She wasn’t sure how much longer she could keep pretending that everything was fine when every part of her felt like it was crumbling. But as much as the situation with Finn tore her apart, she knew Emily was right. She couldn’t let Ciara win.
For now, all she could do was keep fighting—for herself, for her friends, and for the hope that someday, maybe, she could find a way to heal the rift between her and Finn.
