Never Just Friends

A Game of Control

A Game of Control

Hanna watched Elordi as he continued to type on his laptop, his fingers moving with practiced speed. He was methodical, precise, as though every move was calculated, every keystroke planned. In many ways, he was the embodiment of the kind of control she had always longed for—but in his hands, control felt like a double-edged sword.

The tension in the room felt thick, almost suffocating. Hanna sat on the edge of the couch, her arms crossed tightly over her chest. Every part of her body was on alert, every nerve pulsing with a mix of anticipation and anxiety. She had made a deal with Elordi—had agreed to expose Ciara—but now that they were moving closer to that goal, Hanna couldn’t ignore the growing sense that she was sinking deeper into dangerous waters. She had trusted Elordi so far, but could she really trust him to follow through on their plan without dragging her down with him?

“What exactly do you mean by ‘I won’t like where this ends’?” Hanna asked, her voice sharp as she cut through the silence. She couldn’t let the unease fester any longer. She needed answers.

Elordi didn’t look up from his laptop, his eyes still focused on the screen, but his lips curved into that infuriatingly confident smirk of his. “Just that Ciara doesn’t go down without taking someone with her. And right now, you’re her favorite target.”

The words hit Hanna like a cold slap. Her stomach churned as the reality of what she had agreed to settled in. She had known from the beginning that Ciara wouldn’t just walk away quietly, but hearing Elordi’s words made it all feel so much more real. Ciara wasn’t just a petty rival anymore—she was a force to be reckoned with. A force that wouldn’t hesitate to drag anyone into the dirt with her.

Hanna shifted uncomfortably, her mind racing. “And you? What’s stopping her from coming after you?”

Elordi finally looked up, meeting her gaze with that same unreadable expression. There was no hesitation in his eyes, no sign of fear or doubt. He shrugged casually, as though the idea of Ciara targeting him was just another minor inconvenience in his carefully controlled world. “Nothing,” he admitted. “But unlike you, I’m used to getting dirty. I can handle her.”

The way he said it, so casually, made a shiver crawl up Hanna’s spine. It wasn’t a threat. No, it was a fact—Elordi was used to the games people like Ciara played. He knew how to manipulate, how to fight back in ways that crossed lines Hanna wasn’t sure she wanted to cross. He had the experience, the ruthlessness, the coldness. And now, she was relying on him to help her take down someone just as dangerous.

The realization hit Hanna like a punch to the gut. She was standing on the edge of a cliff, one step away from falling into a world she didn’t fully understand. And Elordi was the one holding her hand as they teetered at the precipice.

Her mind spun as she tried to push away the growing sense of unease. She had no choice but to move forward. Ciara had already torn her life apart, and if exposing her was the only way to regain control, then that’s what she had to do. But it didn’t stop the gnawing feeling that she was losing herself in the process.

“So, what’s the plan?” Hanna asked, her voice firm, though it trembled slightly. She needed to focus on the task at hand, needed to shut out the doubt creeping in. She couldn’t afford to second-guess herself now.

Elordi’s smirk deepened, the look in his eyes turning almost predatory. “We expose her. Fully. No holding back this time.”

Hanna’s pulse quickened at the finality in his words. This was it. The line in the sand had been drawn, and there was no turning back. The moment they exposed Ciara, there would be no undoing it. No way to erase the damage it would do to her, to Finn, to everyone caught in the fallout. But it was what had to be done, wasn’t it? Ciara had to be taken down, once and for all.

Hanna opened her mouth to ask more questions, to probe for details, but the words died on her lips. She realized then that there was nothing more to ask. There were no more answers to be given. She had already made the decision. There was no going back.

Elordi shifted, standing up and stretching. His confidence was palpable, his entire presence radiating power and control. It was the kind of dominance Hanna was familiar with, but now, it felt dangerous. Too dangerous.

“You’re ready for this, Hanna,” Elordi said, his voice low but laced with an unshakable certainty. “Once we expose her, the whole world will know who she really is. And they’ll never look at her the same way again.”

Hanna swallowed, her throat tight as the weight of his words sank in. He was right. Once the truth came out, there would be no going back for Ciara. She would be exposed, torn apart by the very system she had used to manipulate others. The power, the control that she had wielded for so long—Hanna was about to take it all away.

But in doing so, Hanna couldn’t help but wonder: what would be left of her once the dust settled? Would she be the person she once was? Or would she be forever changed by the choices she had made in pursuit of revenge?

Elordi’s eyes glinted as if reading her thoughts. “This is your chance, Hanna. Don’t let it slip away.”

As he turned to leave, Hanna stood frozen in place, her heart heavy with the uncertainty of what was to come. She didn’t know if she was ready for this, didn’t know if she could live with the consequences. But there was one thing she was sure of: the game had changed, and she was no longer playing by anyone’s rules but her own.

And whether she liked it or not, this was a game she would have to finish.
